About
Throughline will open its first two-person collective member exhibition, “Potentia // Actualitas”, featuring a collaborative, immersive installation by Cindee Klement and JR Roykovich, on Friday, April 19, at 3909 Main Street, Houston, TX 77004. An opening reception will occur from 6pm to 9pm the same evening.
Potentia // Actualitas is a collaborative, immersive installation that explores the potential and actualized complexities of natural intelligence through lens-based media, found objects and ready-mades, in a site-specific installation. The lens-based works record iterations of light, space and water surrounding a central structure created from organic matter, rusted artifacts, glass, and construction materials. Running throughout is a neon line that connects these varying attributes into a systematic relationship. Together, Klement and Roykovich build a world that investigates the balance of opposing dichotomies and subsequent freedom from dualistic constraints. They advocate for a wild and intuitive response to a possible future of unbound potential.
Cindee Travis Klement is a Houston-based visual artist who works in sculpture, printmaking, and social sculpture. Her creative philosophy is deeply rooted in researching the intricate web of natural systems that characterize Texas' ecological history—species and systems that work to regenerate the soil carbon sponge, foster water absorption, and form rain clouds, restoring the water table and the movement of weather across the landscape.
Inviting us to rethink our landscape practices, Klement works with a diversity of materials, including metal and concrete, living soil and plants, human-made economic-centric systems, and videos. Her work builds holistic relationships with humanity and natural systems.
JR Roykovich (JRR) is a conceptual & research-based artist who broadly investigates the physical and hypothetical spaces created by the intersections of Mystery, Queerness, and The Sublime. These explorations result in immersive mappings and installations that contain arrangements of found and made objects, drawings, and lens-based works. JRR holds a MFA from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, and a BFA from George Mason University. JRR has shown across the United States, internationally, and has been an artist in residence at several institutions, and has work included in various public and private collections.
